Inspired by Brazilian performance artist Ana Mendieta's photographic series Siluetas, Mud was a live performance in which I explored my maternal relationship to mother earth. I decided to cover myself from head to toe in mud to feel a sense of unity between myself and the earth. During the performance, I could smell and feel the earthiness of the mud, smearing it on my body and into my hair. Soon I felt it was my hair, it was my skin. I felt connected. In a world thriving with industry, connecting to nature is a privilege.
